
The 138 foreign nationals rescued from a sinking fishing vessel off the eastern coast have been remanded until February 08 after they were produced at the Akkaraipattu Magistrate’s Court, police said.
The court also ordered police to handover the group to the Detention Camp in Mirihana before the aforementioned date.
Sri Lanka’s navy on Sunday rescued the Bangladeshi and Myanmar nationals from a distressed vessel around 50 miles off the eastern coast of Akkaraipattu.
One passenger was found dead while many of the 138 plucked from the boat were dehydrated and admitted to a hospital.
