The Ministry of Health today said it’s currently searching for a suitable prosthetic arm for Achala Priyadarshini, the final year law student who lost her left arm due to an alleged medical mishap.
This is being done with the assistance of the private sector, Health Ministry Secretary Dr. Nihal Jayathilake said, assuring that the ministry has not neglected the matter.
Addressing a press conference in Colombo today, he stated that patients with broken arms and legs are treated and discharged by hospitals on a daily basis and requested journalists to refrain from damaging the credibility of the entire health system based on one such incident.
Dr. Jayathilake stated that those found guilty under the report, being compiled by a committee appointed to probe the incident, will be punished according to the existing law and that they cannot resort to ancient punishments.
