
Chief Minister of the Western Province Prasanna Ranatunga today said that there is a proper procedure for collecting funds from students for school activities, and that money cannot be collected outside of that procedure.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa had ordered a special inquiry into an incident where a 13–year-old student in Horana had stolen coconuts to pay school authorities to paint the school.
Meanwhile the National Child Protection Authority Chairperson Anoma Dissanayake incidents have been reported of schools collecting funds for various activities even from students living in children’s’ homes.
