124,000 affected by inclement weather

Around 124,000 persons have been adversely affected by the inclement weather conditions prevailing in the island, the Disaster Management Center (DMC) said, adding, that measures have been taken to provide them with relief.
Meanwhile the residents of over 10 houses have been taken to safe locations due to an earth slip in Sulan Kapolla on the Nuwara Eliya- Welimada road near Rendapola town.
Sluice gates of 16 reservoirs coming under the Irrigation Department and several other reservoirs have been opened due to rising water levels caused by heavy rain.
The Department of Meteorology states that showers are expected today in North, East, North Central and Uva provinces as well as Western and Southern coastal areas.
