Sri Lanka would begin a drive to attract tourists from India by launching a three-day initiative, “ Get Sri Lanked”, from Bangalore starting February 21.

With the guidance of Ministry of Economic Development, Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) is organising a three-day Sri Lanka Joint Promotion in the city in a bid to provide the best holiday experience to Indian tourists, Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) MD Rumy Jauffer told reporters in Bangalore.

The joint promotion also plans to attract trade and investment opportunities to the Island.

This joint campaign will include an array of events and activities, Jauffer said.

The campaign will see activities like Media Briefings, Fashion shows, Sri Lankan Food Festivals, B2B meetings between the travel trade of the two countries and Business Seminars among others, he said.

Famous Bollywood film star Jacqueline Fernandez will attend Sri Lankan Night and Fashion Show on February 21, Jauffer said.

Famous Sri Lankan cricketers Sanath Jayasuriya, Mahela Jayawardana, Thilakarathna Dilshan, Lasith Malinga, Kumar Sangakkara and Arjun Ranatunga will also participate in promotional activities, Sri Lanka Cricket Board Secretary Nishantha Ranathunga said.

He said the two world cups held recently in the subcontinent, the one-day and T-20 World Cups in the past two years had projected the country as a major tourist destination.

The “Get Sri Lanked” campaign will also be held in the other cities namely Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Kochi and Ahmedabad, Jauffer said.

Sri Lanka is expecting to attract 400,000 Indian tourists by 2016, thus helping to reach Sri Lanka’s goal of 2.5 million visitors by the year 2016, he said.

According to United Nations World Tourism Organisation, Indian outbound tourists will rise to 50 million by 2020 from 14.21 million in 2011. We want to encash on this trend as we are brother states, Jauffer said. - PTI
