Strong winds destroy 30 homes in Wellawaya

Around 30 houses have been damaged due to strong winds that swept through the Thelulla area in Wellawaya last evening, accompanied with heavy rain, the Disaster Management Center (DMC) said.
At least 10 houses have been completely destroyed while another 20 were partially damage dby the high winds, Monaragala District Assistant Director of the DMC Ravindra Kumara said.
It has been reported that trees have fallen across roads and onto power lines creating power outages as a result of the strong winds.
Measures have been taken to provide relief to those affected by the inclement weather conditions, Ravindra Kumara said.
