DIG not transferred under political pressure - Police

The reason for the transfer of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) M.R. Latheef from the Moneragala District was not due to political pressure, the Police Spokesman’s Office clarified today.
Certain media reports had claimed that the senior police officer, who had taken a tough stand against illegal narcotics and other illegal activities, was transferred according to requests made by several politicians.
DIG Latheef had only covered duties in the Monaragala District, a police media release stated, adding, a new DIG was recently appointed for the district by police headquarters.
