The European Union has decided to support efforts aimed at raising issues of accountability and reconciliation in Sri Lanka and has included the task as one its priorities at the upcoming UN Human Rights Council session in Geneva.
“The EU will also support efforts aimed at keeping the issues of accountability and reconciliation as well as the current human rights situation in Sri Lanka on the agenda of the Human Rights Council,” a press release said.
The decision was among the conclusions adopted by the Council of the European Union in its 3222nd Foreign Affairs Council meeting held in Brussels on Monday (Feb 18).
The US is set to sponsor a procedural resolution at the session next month, building on the 2012 resolution promoting reconciliation and accountability in Sri Lanka.
