Police officer shot in Welikanda

A police officer attached to the Welikanda police division was shot and injured in Polonnaruwa, the Police Spokesman’s office reported.

 

The shooting occurred when the officer had engaged in an arrest operation of three individuals suspected of being involved in a robbery in the Ominiyamadu area in Welikanda.

 

The suspects had been hiding in a house and had shot at the police officers who came to arrest them.

 

The injured policeman was admitted to the Polonnaruwa hospital.
