
An Indian national who attempted to board a flight to Chennai with two gold biscuits worth Rs. 1.4 million strapped to his legs has been arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport by customs officers.
The 35-year-old suspect, who is a textile businessman, has frequently traveled between Indian and Sri Lanka, customs superintendent G.G. Premasiri said.
Two gold biscuits each weighing 100 grams was found strapped to his legs, he said.
The gold biscuits were confiscated while the suspect was fined Rs.50,000 and permitted to leave the country.
