Sri Lankan Navy today arrested 16 Indian fishermen along with 3 trawlers for straying into Sri Lankan waters and poaching in the sea West off Kalpitiya.
The fishermen were arrested early this morning by Navy personnel attached to the Vijaya Navy Camp in Kalpitiya, navy spokesman Commander Kosala Warnakulasuriya said.
Indian fishermen have been accused of repeatedly crossing the International Maritime Boundary Line and venturing into Sri Lankan waters for poaching activates, while it has also been reported that certain Indian fishermen have even attacked and damaged the boats of their Lankan counterparts.
