The Minister of Private Transport has agreed to increase bus fares from next week, says the President of the Private Bus Owners’ Association Gemunu Wijeratne.
Meanwhile the All Ceylon Private Bus Owners’ Federation also stated that a revision of bus fares excluding minimum fares has been approved.
Discussions were held earlier today (08) between bus unions and the Private Transport Minister over fare revisions in the wake of increased fuel prices.
Representatives from the National Transport Commission (NTC) and private bus unions had taken part in the talks held at the Private Transport Services Ministry.
However, Minister of Private Transport C.B. Ratnayake denied that a decision has been reached yet regarding a hike in bus fares.
The Minister conceded that a discussion had taken place between a group of officials including the Secretary of the Ministry, however added that he will consider the matter after a report is submitted to him.
