Director General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Prof. D B P Hareendra Dissabandara has tendered his resignation to the SEC Chairman, with effect from May 27.
However, sources within the SEC informed Ada Derana that Prof. Dissabandara’s contract ends on May 31.
He was appointed as Acting Director General in April last year and was confirmed in his position last September.
When contacted by Ada Derana, Prof. Dissabandara, who was Professor of Finance at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, said was released to the SEC until January, 2014 and that he was resigning due to personal reasons.
The SEC had been in turmoil over the past few years which saw two chairpersons, Indranee Sugathadasa and Thilak Karunaratne stepping down prematurely.
