
The government has declared April 15 (Monday) as a Public Holiday in view of Sinhala and Hindu New Year, Public Administration and Home Affairs Minister W D J Seneviratne said.
The Gazette notification to declare April 15 a special Public Holiday will be issued on Monday, the Government Info Department said quoting the Secretary of the Ministry.
The Aluth Avurudda or the Sinhala Hindu New Year day falls on the 14th of April every year while the day before the Avurudda – the 13th of April – is also important because it is observed as the Parana Avurudda or the Old Year.
