Buddhist monks surrender over Pepiliyana attack

Three Buddhist monks have surrendered to police over the recent attack on a clothing store in Pepiliyana, when a violent mob including monks had stoned and later set fire to a store and warehouse in Pepiliyana.
They have surrendered to the Police Special Investigations Unit.
Two civilians had also handed themselves over to police in connection with the incident, which had caused severe damage to property and injured at least three people.
The six suspects previously arrested over the incident, which took place on Thursday (28), were produced at the Gangodawila Magistrate’s Court today.
One suspect was released on bail while the rest were ordered remanded.
The five suspects along with the Buddhist monks who surrendered today are scheduled to appear before the Gangodawila Magistrate tomorrow.
