President of the Lanka Private Bus Owners’ Association, Gemunu Wijeratne says that a bus strike will take place between April 20 and 30 based on several demands, however refused to give the exact date of the union action.
The date of the strike cannot be revealed to media, however relevant authorities will be informed regarding it, he said at a press briefing today (07).
When asked why the exact date of the strike is only revealed to relevant authorities, Wijeratne said it cannot be revealed to media because the police are searching for information on the matter and that the date of the strike will only be announced 3 days in advance.
He stated that strike is based on several issues such as color-coding buses, the Western Province Road Passenger Transport Authority increasing service charges and no fuel concessions or fare hike being provided despite the fuel price hike.
He stated that it costs around Rs 150,000 just to paint a single bus and that they are willing to do so if the government agrees to pay that concession.
