
A woman who is suspected of swindling large sums of money from people on the pretext of promising government jobs was arrested by the Badulla Division unsolved crimes unit.
Police said information was received that she had cheated several people of over Rs 2.8 million, promising them various jobs in the government sector and in the Uva Provincial Council.
Several complaints had been lodged against the woman from several areas and police were able to arrest her with the help of officers posing as job seekers.
Official seals and documents containing the name and designation of the Uva Province Health Secretary and a seal similar to that if another Ministry Secretary was found in the suspect’s possession at the time of the arrest, police said.
