The Kekirawa Magistrate Court ordered that a married couple arrested for allegedly murdering and burying their newborn baby, be remanded until April 22.
The 38 year old mother along with her husband were accused of murdering and burying their newborn baby in the Minneriya forest reserve around five days ago and were arrested by the Habarana police following a complaint by residents of the area.
The suspects are residents of the Kashyapagama area of Habarana.
Upon questioning the mother, the police were able to uncover details of the baby’s murder and upon the direction of the acting Kekirawa Magistrate the police were able to exhume the body of the baby from a 2ft deep ditch.
The couple were then ordered to be kept in remand until April 22.
