A member of the Mihintale Pradeshiya Sabha has filed a complaint with the Human Rights Commission against four officers of the Mihinale Police Station.
Anil Pushpananda, a UPFA Pradeshiya Sabha member, had lodged the written complaint with the Anuradhapura office of the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka.
The complaint was filed against the police officers for allegedly arresting his son - a student- under false charges, assaulting him and proceeding to remand him under a court order.
Pushpananda also accuses the officers, the former Acting OIC of the Mihintale Police, the Crimes OIC of the police station, a Sub-inspector and a Police Constable, of making defamatory statements to media regarding him – a representative of the people.
He requests the commission to conduct an inquiry into allegedly injustice towards him and his son and the violation of their rights.
