Three persons of the same family were injured and hospitalized following a shooting which had occurred in the Gangasiripura area in Tissamaharama last night.
The father, son and daughter of the same family were injured in the shooting which took place at around 7.00pm yesterday, police said.
Two groups from neighboring houses had quarreled after a lit firecracker had fallen into one of the houses and the argument had escalated resulting in the shooting, police said.
The injured persons were rushed to the Hambantota General Hospital while the daughter who was in critical condition has been transferred to the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital.
The suspect who had carried out the shooting and his wife has been placed under arrest while Tissamaharama Police is conducting further investigations.
