American aid to Sri Lanka is only of academic interest since Sri Lanka does not accept any material aid from the US, a senior official in Sri Lanka told Ada Derana.

 

The US Secretary of State, John Kerry proposed that US aid to Sri Lanka should be cut by 20% which is believe to be the highest aid cut that any South Asian country received within his budget proposals.

 

Speaking to Ada Derana, the senior official added that it would be useful for the US to revitalize their economy using the resources that they have.

 

These remarks come in the wake of unease between the two nations in their ties over various issues related to human rights.
