80 Australia-bound persons arrested

Sri Lanka Navy today intercepted a multi-day trawler with 80 persons illegally bound for Australia in seas North of Point Pedro.
The trawler named “Emmanuwel” was intercepted by a Navy’s Fast Naval Patrol Craft attached to the Northern Naval Command.
Among the arrested are 38 men, 18 women and 24 children who are said to be residents of Jaffna, Negombo and Vavniya.
They are being brought to KKS Harbour to be handed over to the CID for further investigations, Navy said.
