
Sri Lanka Navy has intercepted 55 persons illegally bound for Australia in a multi-day trawler in the early hours today. The trawler named “Mithuna Putha-3” was intercepted by a Fast Naval Patrol Craft attached to the Western Naval Command 12 nautical miles west of Negombo, SLN said.
Among the arrested persons are 41 men, 6 women and 8 children. They are residents of Mullaithivu, Jaffna, Vavunia and Puttalam. They are currently being brought to Modera Fisheries Harbour to be handed over to the CID for further investigations, SLN added.
