
It has been reported that the funds allocated towards the dengue prevention campaign last year have not been utilized properly. 225 persons died of dengue last year while 15 deaths have been reported so far this year.
Last year, the government allocated Rs.300 million to the officials of the dengue prevention unit. However, only Rs.27 million was utilized for dengue prevention programmes.
It is reported that 44,000 people were diagnosed with dengue last year while 225 dengue-related deaths were reported.
Health sector Trade Unions claimed that it was regrettable that the funds allocated for the prevention of dengue was not used properly stating that various inefficiencies were to blame for the situation.
10,000 persons have already been diagnosed with dengue this year while 15 deaths have been reported.
It was also reported that no officials involved with the dengue prevention campaign had submitted any proposals regarding the programme as yet.
