Youth arrested for kidnapping, Rs15M ransom demand

A suspect has been arrested on charges of kidnapping and forcibly detaining an individual in an attempt to demand a ransom of Rs 15 million.
The 27-year-old from Dankotuwa was arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) in connection with the kidnapping of a resident of Prince of Wales Mawatha, Colombo on April 12.
The kidnapping carried out by armed men had taken place in Peliyagoda while a ransom of Rs 15 million was demanded for his release. An initial ransom payment of Rs 800,000 was obtained by them, police said.
Police have also taken into the custody the van used in the kidnapping.
