Four school children and a van driver were saved after about half the school van they were traveling in went under water on a bridge in the Udamwita area in Seeduwa on the Negombo-Colombo road today (May 6).
Police stated that the area had been adversely affected by the heavy rains and that the bridge that the van had attempted to drive over had been in a very unstable state.
The van had been overcome with the flood waters when the driver attempted to drive over the bridge while the surrounding people had immediately helped save the four children and the driver.
The four school children were between the ages of 12-16 while three of them are studying at a school in Maradana while the other is a student of an international school.
