A school child was killed in a motorbike accident in the Marawila area today (May 8), police stated. The victim was a 10 year old student from a school in the area.
The incident took place this morning when the victim along with another student of 19 years was traveling on a motorbike to attend sports training in the Katuneriya area. The bike had toppled on the road and the 10 year old child who was not wearing a protective helmet was killed, police stated.
The other student who was operating the motorbike was taken to the Marawila hospital and was transferred to the Chilaw General Hospital later on.
The victim was a student of St. Xavier Maha Vidyalaya.
The Marawila police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
