Tense situation in Kattankudy; Police and Army deployed

Police and army personnel were deployed in the Meerabalika area of Kattankudy after a tense situation developed following a dispute between residents and members of the Urban Council.
A group of people and members of the Urban Council had a heated exchange of words over the Kattankudy Urban Council taking control of a portion of the Meerabalika cemetery, an Ada Derana correspondent reported.
The group had assaulted an assistant of the Urban Council Chairman after the argument had spiralled out of control.
The police had intervened at this point while the army were brought in as well to disperse the crowd.
Ada Derana learns that Police and army personnel have been deployed in the area to ensure the situation stays under control.
