The public does not expect the present opposition to intervene in the people’s problems, the Executive Director of the Campaign for Free and Fair Election (CaFFE) organization Keerthi Tennakoon stated.
He said that the opposition is currently in a very weak state.
Tennakoon added that a country’s opposition is not only responsible for contesting in elections but also to intervene on the people’s behalf concerning issues such as health care and education.
He pointed out that the opposition was even unable to portray the public’s anger towards the electricity tariff increases.
He added that at a time when the opposition parties are only serving their own interests, it is the trade unions and civil organizations that have come to the forefront to carry the protest campaigns forward.
