Speaking to the BBC about the loss of lives in the North in the shelling during the final stages of the war, MP Namal Rajapaksa stated that they actually do not know if it was the LTTE or the government that fired the shells.
He highlighted the various atrocities committed by the LTTE in the South including the bombings of schools, banks and religious places claiming that there were thousands of people who have lost their loved ones as a result.
He added that these losses were not suffered by the people in the North exclusively and that hundreds of thousands of people suffered at the hands of the LTTE during the war.
The MP was grilled on issues concerning the government’s role in alleged civilian attacks while he was also questioned about attacks on journalists and disappearances.
Namal Rajapaksa stated that no one in the country accepted the incident concerning the murder of Sunday Leader Editor Lasantha Wickrematunga and assured that the police would do the needful with concern to cases of disappearances.
