A UPFA Pradeshiya Sabha member of Wennappuwa was arrested today in (May 30) for the assault of two persons over a land dispute.
Two persons including the Chairman of the Kammala Civil Security Committee were allegedly assaulted by a member of the Wennappuwa Pradeshiya Sabha and were admitted to hospital with injuries.
The assault had allegedly taken place in the Kammala area in Wennappuwa on May 28.
The two victims alleged that the PS member himself along with an armed group had assaulted them.
The Wennappuwa police confirmed that they had received a complaint regarding the incident and had begun investigations into the matter.
This morning Shiron Fernando, the PS member in question handed himself over to the police while he is due to be presented to the Marawila Magistrate Court, police stated.
The two injured victims are still receiving treatment at the Marawila hospital.
