Sri Lankan Embassy opened in Bahrain

The first Embassy of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka in Manama, which will help its 25,000 nationals working in Bahrain, was declared open today.

Bahrain’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ghanim bin Fadhil Al Buainain attended the ceremony marking the opening of the embassy, in the presence of the Deputy Minister of External Affairs of Sri Lanka Neomal Perera, Sri Lankan Ambassador to Bahrain R K Rajakaruna, Foreign Affairs Ministry’s senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and dignitaries.

On the occasion, Mr Al Buainain said that the Kingdom of Bahrain welcomed the opening of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Bahrain, stressing its important role in bolstering the friendly bilateral ties of cooperation, as well as offering services to the Sri Lankan community in the kingdom.

Mr. Al Buainain also affirmed in his address, delivered on his behalf by the Foreign Ministry’s Undersecretary Ambassador Abdulla Abdullatif, the Foreign Affairs Ministry’s full backing and support to the Sri Lankan Embassy, BNA reported.

He said that the support aims at enabling the Embassy to carry out its diplomatic duties and offer its services to the Sri Lankan community in the Kingdom.

On his part, Deputy Minister of External Affairs of Sri Lanka Neomal Perera expressed the Sri Lankan government’s pride in the remarkable progress of diplomatic ties with the Kingdom of Bahrain, noting that Embassy will contribute to bolstering cooperation between Sri Lanka and countries in the region.

Mr. Rajakaruna expressed his sincere thanks and appreciation to the wise leadership of the Kingdom of Bahrain for its constant support for the Sri Lankan community, affirming that the embassy’s keenness to develop bilateral economic, trade and tourism ties further and create new areas of cooperation in various fields.
