The non-academic staff of the Sabaragamuwa University have decided to engage in a protest supporting the hunger strike launched by student of the university based on several demands.
The protest will be carried out for an hour from 12 noon today joined by all non-academic staff unions including the university’s office trade union, clerk and technical services union, the Nidahas Sevaka Sangamaya, Library Officials Union and Sri Lanka University Technical Officers Association.
The protest is against the suppression of academics, non-academic staff and students, the “illegal” suspension of 5 student leaders as well as political interference within university.
Undergraduates of the Sabaragamuwa University had launched a continuous fast against issues such as student suppression, violence against students and 500% increase in the registration fees for newcomers.
