EC urges public to register as electors

Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya today requested all eligible citizens in Sri Lanka to register themselves as electors without fail.
The Department of Elections has declared today (June 01) as Voters’ Day, aimed at raising awareness among public on the need to register for voting.
It said that awareness programmes on registering electors will take place across the island today and that emphasis will be given to educating people living in flats, estates and boarding houses on the importance of entering their name into the electoral list as a majority of them have not done so.
