The Depot Superintendent of the SLTB bus depot in Keppetipola, Welimada has been hospitalized after he was allegedly assaulted by a UPFA member of the Uva Provincial Council, over the failure to provide buses for a minister’s event.
Depot Superintendent M.N. Jayalath Manatunga claims that the Provincial Councilor and two other men had entered the Keppetipola Depot in a three-wheeler and assaulted him, by hitting him in the head and chest.
He elaborated that the Provincial Councilor in question had made a request seeking several SLTB buses for a ceremony being held today (02), organized by a prominent Cabinet Minister in the Badulla District.
Mr Manatunga said he had asked for the request in writing, however had not received it in due time.
The minister’s office has then inquired regarding the buses from the UPFA Provincial Councilor, who was angered over the problem in releasing SLTB buses and therefore had assaulted the Depot Superintendent.
When inquired by Ada Derana regarding the incident, Welimada Polcie said that the Depot Superintendent is currently receiving treatment at the Uva Paranagama Hospital and that they had commenced investigations according to a complaint received.
