Steps will be taken to provide members of the ‘Divi Neguma’ national programme with free pre-paid smart cards for traveling in private buses, Minister Basil Rajapaksa said today.
The Economic Development Minister made these comments during the launch of the pre-paid smart card system introduced for private bus passengers from today.
In place of the old system of paying for individual journeys, the new pre paid card system, initiated in Colombo today, allows the public to purchase pre paid cards for a mere Rs 100 to be used for travelling in private buses.
Commuters will definitely benefit from this method as they could use up the money without having to forfeit balance money like before. When the balance on the card reduces it can be reloaded, Lanka Private Bus Owners Association said.
It is a unique juncture in the private bus transport service said the President of the Private Bus Owner’s Association Gemunu Wijeratne. He further stated that this new card system will be implemented island wide expeditiously.
