India remains committed to full implementation of 13th amendment

The stance of India remains that the 13th amendment must be implemented fully, Spokesman for the Indian Prime Minister’s office, V. Narayanasamy stated.

 

Speaking to the foreign press, he said that India remains committed to implementing the pact signed by former Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and former Sri Lankan President J.R. Jayawardena.

 

He added that the 13thconstitutional amendment should not be implemented in stages but should be implemented fully as it is in India, therefore ending the problems surrounding the Tamil community in Sri Lanka.

 

Narayanasamy stated that India briefed Minister Arumugam Thondaman and his delegation on the subject during their tour of India a few days ago.
