India beat Sri Lanka to reach final

India will play England in the Champions Trophy final after in-form opener Shikhar Dhawan helped steer his team to an eight-wicket victory over Sri Lanka in the 2nd semifinal on Thursday.

Set a target of 182 in damp, overcast conditions in south Wales, the Indians romped to victory as Dhawan struck 68 to take his tournament-high haul of runs to 332 in four matches.

Rohit Sharma (33) and Shikhar Dhawan (68) were the only casualties as MS Dhoni’s men coasted to their target with Virat Kohli (58 not out) and Suresh Raina (seven not out) firing the final runs to see them reach 182-2 with 15 overs to spare.

A fine display of seam bowling had set the platform for India in a repeat of the 2011 World Cup final, with Ishant Sharma (3-33) and Bhuvneshwar Kumar (1-18) tying the top order down and Sri Lanka managing just 181-8.

England, the tournament host, will be seeking its first 50-over ICC title in the final at Edgbaston on Sunday while India can confirm its status as the king of one-day cricket.
