Customs detects smuggled mobile phones, tablet PCs

Customs officers at the Bandaranaike International Airport arrested a suspect and seized 785 mobile phones and 34 tablet PCs illegally smuggled into the country and valued at almost Rs 1 million.
The suspect, a resident of Dematagoda, had arrived in a flight from Dubai and was arrested at around 4.30 a.m. today following a search of his luggage by customs officers.
He had attempted to sneak the luggage through security at the arrival terminal with the help of another individual when the custom officers had searched it under a suspicion and detected the electronic items.
Investigations regarding the suspect are ongoing, a spokesman for Sri Lanka Customs said.
