Public cautioned as Castlereigh spill gates opened

People living along the Kelani River are advised to be vigilant as spill gates in Castlereigh Reservoir will be opened and water levels are expected to rise, the Disaster Management Center (DMC) said.
Meanwhile the Met Department says that showers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Southern provinces and may extend to North-Western province too.
Heavy showers (around 100mm) are also expected at some places.
Southwestern monsoonal winds will be strengthen at times over the island and especially along the western slopes of central hills.
