Teacher commits suicide by jumping off bridge

A school teacher has committed suicide by jumping into the Mahaweli River from near the Bawwagama Bridge in Nawalapitiya.
The deceased has been identified as Nishanthi Wewalagedara, a 45-year-old woman from Imbulpitiya, who teaches at a school in Nawalapitiya.
Police said the body was recovered from the Mahaweli River bank in the Doruwadeniya area and that her mobile phone, NIC, handbag and footwear were found from the location where she had jumped off near the Bawwagama Bridge.
The cause for the suicide is yet to be ascertained while Nawalapitiya Police are conducting further investigations.
