There is no agenda to split the country as more Tamil people live in the South than the North and East, Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne stated.
He said that the only groups supporting the cause of a separate state were the international diaspora and a a small minority of political parties in Sri Lanka.
The Prime Minister said that the government will not allow this narrow-minded agenda to be realized.
He added that the President’s objective was to improve the harmony between communities within the country.
