The Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka has turned its attention on finding solutions to reduce the number of casualties caused due to unprotected railway crossings in the country.
The Commission will discuss the matter with all the authorities related to the transport sector while police and other security forces will also be involved.
Several deaths have occurred in the past few months at unprotected railway crossings and the blame has fallen directly on the railway department as a large number of railway crossings in the country remain without any protective gates and warning signals.
The Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka has also requested transport officials to hand in a report concerning the numerous deaths that have occurred at these railway crossings over the last few weeks.
However, the topic of unprotected railway crossings have been discussed at length in the past with no lasting solution being found.
