The charge sheet was handed over against 19 defendants, including Senior Minister Athauda Seneviratne, for allegedly causing damages to a drinking water project in Kohombadeniya, Warakapola.

The charge sheet was handed over before Warakapola Magistrate Sanath J. Morawaka when the case was taken up today, Ada Derana court reporter said.

The case was filed by Warakapola police, on the instruction of the Attorney General, on charges of causing nearly Rs 1 million in damage to the Drinking Water project at Kohombadeniya.

The attorney representing the 19 defendants, including the Senior Minister of Rural Affairs, informed court that his party is prepared to reach a settlement while attorney appearing on behalf of the bereaved party stated that they would consider it and inform court in the future.

The Magistrate then postponed hearings of the case to January 10, 2013.

Senior Minister Athauda Seneviratne and handed himself over to court on June 22 last year and was later released on bail. Two police officers of the Ministerial Security Division (MSD) had also surrendered along with the Senior Minister.
