Opposition Leader Ranil Wickramasinghe today urged the government to inquire from India regarding the multiple blasts that ripped through the premises of the Mahabodhi temple in Bodh Gaya, and submit a report to Parliament.
Drawing the ruling party’s attention towards the incident on Sunday morning, which shocked Buddhist communities across the world, Wickramasinghe requested the Sri Lankan government make inquiries from high-ranking officials in Bihar and subsequently submit a report to Parliament.
Responding to this statement, External Affairs Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris informed Parliament that the government has already made inquiries from India regarding the incident and that according to information received so far the terror attack has no connection to Sri Lanka.
He further said that the investigations by Indian authorities into the blasts in Bodh Gaya is still ongoing and that the Government of India has assured that those found guilty will be subject to the maximum punishments under the law.
