A youth who abducted a schoolgirl early this morning (July 16) was arrested by the Madampe police. The girl had been abducted while traveling to school while police had arrested the kidnapper and seized the lorry he was driving.
The abduction had taken place this morning at around 7am while police responded quickly and made the arrest just 45 minutes later, an Ada Derana correspondent reported.
The victim was a schoolgirl studying in Grade 10 at a school in Madampe. She had been traveling to school on her bicycle when the man had thrown and her bicycle into his lorry following which he fled the area.
Another man who was dropping his children at school on his motorbike had witnessed the incident and had chased after the lorry while the Principal of the school had informed the police of the crime.
The traffic unit of the Madampe police was able to stop the lorry near the Madampe town.
The abducted girl and her bicycle were found in the back of the lorry while the suspect will be presented to the Chilaw District Court.
