Five held after cops raid illegal slaughterhouse

Police today arrested five persons following a raid on an illegal slaughterhouse in a deserted area on the Mahakubukkadawala road in Madurankuliya, and also took into custody two cows and a 6-month-old calf to be slaughtered for meat.
The raid was carried out by officers of Mundalama Police, following a tip-off that cattle slaughtering was being carried out at the location without a proper license.
Police said that one animal had already been slaughtered when they had reached the location, however they managed to rescue the other three.
The suspects are scheduled to be produced at the Puttalam District Court.
