
The Met Department warns that the sea areas off the coast extending from Hambantota to Pottuvil and deep sea areas off the coast from Jaffna to Trincomalee will be rough at times while Gulf of Mannar sea area and the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Hambantota via Galle will be fairly rough at times.
Wind speeds will be 20-40 km/hr and may increase up to 60 km/h at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Hambantota to Pottuvil and deep sea areas off the coast from Jaffna to Trincomalee.
It also said that there will be showers or thundershowers at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Hambantota via Galle while showers are also expected to occur at several places in other sea areas too.
The wind speed may increase up to 50Kmph in the Gulf of Mannar sea area and the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Hambantota via Galle, a weather forecast issued for the next 24 hours said.
The Department of Meteorology also warned of fairly strong winds expected over the country, particularly along the western slopes of the Central hills. “In addition there may be temporary localized fairly strong winds during thundershowers.”
Due to the convergence of Southwesterly wind flow showers or Thundershowers can be expected along the coastal areas of Puttalam to Kalutara and the sea areas off said coast.
Several spells of showers will occur in the Central, Sabaragamuwa, Western and Southern provinces.
Thundershowers will develop at a few places in the Eastern, Uva, North central and Northern provinces during the afternoon or evening.
The Met Department requested the public to take adequate precautions to minimize the damages caused by lightning activities.
