A magistrate has filed a complaint with the police after a Rs 1,000 note used by him to pay the fee at a toll office of the Kottawa Interchange on the Southern Expressway turned out to be a counterfeit currency note.
The Angunakolapelessa Magistrate, arriving from Galle, had attempted to exit the expressway from the Kottawa Interchange at round 10pm last night when the cash machine at the toll office had detected that the Rs 1,000 used to pay the fee was fake.
The Magistrate had then proceeded to lodge a complaint with the Homaga Police, stating that the cash he had received after cashing a cheque at a state-owned bank in Angunakolapelessa had contained a counterfeit Rs 1,000 note.
The magistrate was released by police after recording a statement from him.
