Fire breaks out at temple in Wellawaya

A fire broke out at a Buddhist Temple in the Thelulla area in Wellawaya almost completely destroying 2 structures housing a Rural Development Unit and a carpentry training institute.
The fire which erupted this morning was quelled police with the help of residents in the area.
The cause for the fire has not been determined yet while Wellawaya Police are conducting further investigations.
Meanwhile a fire which broke out at the Maduruoya reserve in Maha Oya has destroyed over 200 acres of land.
The fire erupted at round 4.20pm yesterday (26) and was brought under control by police and army personnel. No casualties have been reported from the fire.
